Traceurs of Parkour
People virtually flying…
High jumps that are death-defying...
Acrobatic moves that will simply stop your heart from beating!
These things are only a few of the exciting and spectacular acts, you can see in a parkour!
Parkour as you may have already heard is a sport that originated from France. It is based on the principle that with proper practice and concentration, your body can do anything. Visually, parkour practitioners will move from one spot to another spot in a manner that what others might consider superhuman-like. The efficiency and swiftness of these movements is made possible trough the use of ones body.
Traceurs’ (Traceur is the other term for parkour practitioners) goal originally is to hasten one actions and ability to move. This, is in accordance with the with the basic principle that parkour is a form of martial arts. But different from the other kinds, parkour is focuses more on movement as it is the martial arts for flight.
One will be able to adapt into dangerous and emergency circumstances by being able to react fast and precise if he practices parkour. This is the reason most parkour practices are being held in tall buildings, walls, stairs, industrial installations, parks and other places that has a virtual tag: dangerous!
While others regard parkour as plain sport, there are some who view this as an art. Each body movement, each decision to make has a solid reason and fluid beauty. It is an art in motion. One that is not easy to perfect.
This art and sport flies on a dangerous sky. A single wrong movement could mean that Death God is waiting for you. That is why each move in parkour should be practiced and perfected every time.
Movements define parkour and separate it from other martial arts and sports. The flight skills are among the most spectacular of these movements.
Other parkour movements that are worthy of specialization is rooted on mimicking animal movements and skills. This is true in the case of Cat to Cat, Cat Balance, Cat Leap, Cat Jump/Pass, King Kong Vault, Monkey Vault and Bear Dive.
Movements where the animal cat is coined depends on the flexibility and fluidity of the traceurs. The Cat Jump for example involves a horizontal movement accomplished by a powerful jump where one pushes his own hands while his legs are tucked. This enables the parson to immediately be back to a vertical position – just like in a cat.
Another famous move in parkour is the roll, where one executes a forward roll to recover from what could have been a dangerous and deadly fall.
Other movements that are truly impressive are those that use a vault. Powerful hands, good balance and a perfect sense of timing are only among the few skills that a parkour practitioner should posses if he wants to do Turn Vault, Dash Vault, Reverse Vault, Speed Vault, Lazy Vault and Kash Vault effectively.
The art, the sport and the moves make parkour a truly one of a kind sport. No other sport can even come close to this. And as they say, parkour is parkour!
